VIC: Parents endure long waits to see if children have cancer
MELBOURNE, Jan 15 AAP - Parents were being forced to endure long waits to find out whether
their child had cancer because of staff shortages at the Royal Children's Hospital, a report
in The Age said today.
Testing of tissue or tumour samples, as opposed to blood samples, takes 24 to 48 hours but
at various periods in the past two years, this has blown out to three or four days because of
staff shortages.
The hospital has been operating with only one specialist pathologist.
