FED:Aussies in Ivory Coast safe: DFAT

CANBERRA, April 4 AAP - Five Australians in strife-torn Ivory Coast are all safe, the
federal government says.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says Australia's High Commission in nearby
Ghana has consular responsibility for all Australians in Ivory Coast.

"The High Commission is in contact with the five Australians known to be in the country,
including two United Nations employees," a DFAT spokesperson said on Monday.

"All are safe."

Foreigners have begun fleeing the country amid worsening violence as two rival leaders
fight for power.

The pair - Alassane Ouattara and Laurent Gbagbo - have been locked in a stand-off since
disputed November elections.
